  • Pastel de nata is the uniquely Portuguese dessert. From the moment you land in Lisbon, you’ll see pastéis de nata everywhere. All cafes and restaurants sell these mini custard tarts. Looking at chefs rhythmically baking pastries, through large windows of many cafes, we were intrigued. What are they? What are they made of? Are they all the same? How to choose the best pastel de nata? The more we learned the more interesting it got.
